Community Groups at Luther Place

Call the Church office, 202-667-1377 if you are interested in finding out more.

Families and Friends Fellowship

It takes a village to raise a child. Kids need time to interact with each other, their own parents, other parents, and other adults in a community of faith and love. Parents need time to interact with their own kids, other people’s kids, and other parents and to share the joys and challenges of parenting. Some non-parents (or parents of grown up children) crave time to interact with kids on occasion. This group helps facilitate all these. This group is not intended to replace the wonderful education opportunities we already have in place such as Sunday School or Vacation Bible School.

GLBT Community Group

The GLBT group meets monthly for dinner for fellowship, friendship, and support. We meet at the home of Miles Harter. We generally meet on the third Sunday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Adams Morgan and More Community Group

Meets in the home of Wendy Mayer and Dan Corbett for the purpose of fellowship, pastoral care, spiritual growth and hospitality. We live in Adams Morgan, but welcome new people from near and far. We create an environment where people can bring non-church friends too.

Washington Inter Faith Network Community Group

WIN at Luther Place 1) builds relationships within the congregation aimed at identifying and building people’s leadership potential; 2) looks for unmet needs in the neighborhood that could generate organized people and money to improve living conditions and 3) connects Luther Place and its members with WIN’s citywide agenda.

We meet for 20 minute meetings once a month between services and with the larger WIN network on the third Monday of every month.

Seniors Group

The Seniors Group meets the second Wednesday of every month. Luther Place Memorial Church and the friendships made here have been an important part of our Senior Members' lives for many years. For those who can no longer make the trip back here, we want to bring some of the people and the feeling of being here to them. So, while some of our second-Wednesday meetings will be at the Church, we also gather at the National Lutheran Home and at other locations where some of our long-time members reside.

Young Adults Group

We are people in their 20s and 30s from a variety of backgrounds and interests who gather once a month for dinner, discussion and prayer. We also occasionally go on retreats together and enjoy other social activities together. We keep each other updated on service opportunities as they arise.

Eco-Stewards

In the summer of 2006, Luther Place members founded an ad-hoc committee focused on reducing our energy and environmental footprint, educating members and the public about environmental sustainability, and promoting grassroots activism for environmental causes.
