Total funds distributed from purchases made during 2007 were $205,476. This amount includes a grant from the Regional Office of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans of $26,342.
The single most popular gift in 2007 was a Basket of Books; 1,047 were purchased. Southeast Ministries in Washington, DC offers free books to the 500 children and adults who are clients of their education and job-readiness programs. Having books available in the home is known to facilitate interest in reading.
The gift garnering the largest amount, $13,625, was mattresses for children in Namibia. The Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia operates hostels and homes for children whose families have been devastated by AIDS and also hostels located near schools where children who live too far from any school live during the week.
