Lutheran Volunteer Corps

The Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) is a program of volunteers from around the country who serve for one year receiving housing and a small stipend.

Volunteers agree to live by three tenets:

  • Work for social justice
  • Explore simplicity
  • Build community

From its founding at Luther Place in 1979, LVC has grown into a program of approximately 90 volunteers who commit to working for one year in direct social service agencies and public policy organizations in ten cities across the country (Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Oakland/Berkeley, Seattle, Tacoma, Wilmington, DE, and Washington, DC).

Participation is open to people over 21 years of age and to people of all faiths.

“I credit my LVC experience as irrevocably shaping my vocation and the values by which I live.”
