Grow closer to God through education. We have education for all ages at 10 am each Sunday from September through May, as well as other opportunities throughout the year. We’re always adjusting our offerings. Let us know what interests you.
Children 2 to 5 years old meet with Rev. Robin in the chapel. Due to the young age of the children, a parent is expected to stay with their child during this class.
Children 6 and older meet downstairs in the Sunday School room.
Children are welcome and encouraged at all of our worship services. Both our 9 am and 11 am services include a children's message offered by the clergy. A staffed nursery is available at all services.
“After studying Jesus' baptism, I'm better able to understand the baptisms at Luther Place.”
The Prayerbook of the Bible: An Introduction to the Psalms, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
During Lent (March 5 - April 2) our Sunday 10:00 AM adult education will focus on Bonhoeffer and the Psalms. Bonhoeffer prayed the psalms regularly and they helped form the spiritual foundation for his social conscience.
We will focus a portion of each class on Bonhoeffer himself and learn more about the link between spiritual disciplines, especially related to the psalms, and social action.
We will also explore the use of the psalms throughout history, learn to sing the psalms, and delve into some of your favorites in depth.
Books are available for purchase for $8.00. Please join us even if you don't have the book. All are welcome.
On Wednesdays in Lent, the DC area churches will gather at a different church each Wednesday for supper at 6:30, vespers at 7:00 and a special presentation on Bonhoeffer at 7:30. This is in addition to Luther Places' normal Thursday evening vespers. Click here for a full schedule of presentations.
“It gives me an opportunity to discuss issues of life from a Christian perspective.”
Luther Place has an extensive archive and library which are cared for and made available to the congregation by several members, who welcome additional hands.
“I've learned that Luther Place has always been involved in the life of the city.”
Several weekends a year, retreats are held at Rolling Ridge in West Virginia. The “retreat house” in the woods is about an hour and a half away. One-day “retreats” are also occasionally held on Saturday at the church. Each retreat combines a theme and fellowship.
“I can step back from my daily life, explore a topic of interest, and get to know my fellow travelers in our life journey.”
