Luther Place Members Attend Interfaith Service on Healthcare Reform

 On Wednesday, June 24th, about 20 members from Luther Place gathered on Freedom Plaza with hundreds of other faith groups to pray and advocate for healthcare reform.  Bishop Richard Graham from the Metro-DC Synod offered prayers for accessibility, joined by leaders from the Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist communities among others.  The service allowed for many voices to be heard in song, prayer, testimonies, and speakers.  The ELCA Lutheran Church was also represented by Bob Francis - Domestic Issues Advocate from the ELCA Washington Office - who had the opportunity to introduce Congressman Tom Perriello from Virginia.  Over 57 faith groups sponsored this service, and Luther Place was proud to help represent the ELCA with friends from other Lutheran Churches in the area!  See more photos from the event...  

 

Luther Place Shows Capitol Pride!

Members from Luther Place participated in the festivities of Capitol Pride week during the 2nd week in June.  As a Reconciling in Christ congregation, Luther Place is committed to the full participation of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.  Members marched in the Pride Parade on Saturday, June 13th, waving our banner high!  The parade ended on 14th St right by Luther Place, the statue of Martin Luther dressed appropriately for the occasion.  On Sunday, Luther Place was also represented at the Lutherans Concerned booth outside of the church.  Click here to see some photos from the weekend!
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

N Street Village Honors Rev. John and Erna Steinbruck

The evening of Sunday, May 31st brought together an interfaith gathering to celebrate the work of Pastor John and Erna Steinbruck as, 36 years ago, they helped bring together people of all faith backgrounds in DC to start the foundations of N Street Village.  The celebration was held at synagogue Ohr Kodesh and featured music from Bethany's Women of Praise and remarks from Norm Goldstein, Evelyn Green, and Joan Dodek.
