About NSV
In keeping with its mission of hospitality and welcoming the stranger, Luther Place opened its church building in 1973 to provide shelter for people who were homeless and destitute. Christened N Street Village, this ministry has evolved into a continuum of services and supportive housing. In 2006, N Street Village won the Washington Post Award for Exellence in Non-Profit Management. Today, Luther Place continues to be involved in supporting N Street Village in many way. NSV Services
The community of N street Village offers several services:
Bethany Women's Center
A day center that provides basic services such as meals, clothing, showers, laundry facilities, recreation and case management for homeless women. Bethany is open 365 days a year and relies on volunteers to help serve meals each day.
Luther Place Night Shelter
The night shelter is located on the 4th floor of Luther Place and provides housing for up to 31 women while helping them set and achieve goals for moving out of homelessness. This is not an emergency shelter; rather, the average length of stay is between 6 months and one year.
Program Housing
There are three different housing programs at NSV: Group Homes for longer-term supportive housing; Recovery Housing, which serves 21 women working to recover from addictions; and Transitional Housing for 21 women of a high level of independent living.
Wellness Center
The Wellness Center provides health, mental health and holistic health services, including nursing triage, a twice weekly Dental Clinic and a once-monthly Ophthalmology Clinic, massage, reiki and acupuncture, group and individual counseling services, exercise classes and health education groups. Most of the classes and individual services of the Wellness Center are offered by volunteers.
Affordable Housing
Eden House is a 51-unit apartment complex that offers rental housing for low-income families.
Employment Services
The Education and Employment Center (EEC) is one of N Street's newest programs that seeks to prepare women interested in pursing education, vocational training, volunteer opportunities or employment work.
